A coffee shop where the barista is a robot.

Yummy Future started in a UIUC robotics lab in 2018. Today a robotic barista pulls the shots and whisks the matcha at three real storefronts — one in downtown Palo Alto, two in Champaign.

§ 01 / WHAT IT IS

What is a robot coffee shop?

Not a vending machine
A WORKING CAFÉ

A robot coffee shop is a café where the drinks are made by a robotic system instead of a human barista. You order, the robot brews, you pick up your cup — same recipe, same pour, every single time.

The part people get wrong: it's not a vending machine with better marketing. Our shops brew real espresso and whisk real matcha with the same equipment logic a specialty café uses — the robot just executes each step with machine precision instead of a tired human wrist. People still do everything a machine can't: designing the menu, tasting and tuning recipes, sourcing ingredients, and keeping the whole system calibrated.

Regulars at our original Champaign shop know its robot by name — Mozart. The student paper covered it when we opened.

§ 02 / HOW IT WORKS

From order to cup, robot-made.

Espresso · Matcha · More
SAME CUP EVERY TIME
STEP 01

You order

Walk up and pick your drink — espresso drinks, matcha lattes, seasonal specials. The full menu for each store lives on its location page.

STEP 02

The robot brews

The robotic barista pulls the shot, steams the milk, or whisks the matcha — each step executed exactly the way the recipe was tuned by our team. No off days, no rushed pours.

STEP 03

You pick up

Grab your cup at the counter and watch the robot start on the next one. That's the whole show — and honestly, the show is half the reason people bring friends.

§ 05 / FAQ

Fair questions.

Is the coffee really made by a robot?

Yes. In every Yummy Future shop, a robotic system behind the counter pulls the espresso shots, steams the milk, and whisks the matcha. People design the recipes, source the ingredients, and keep the machines calibrated — the robot does the repetitive brewing, the same way every time.

What is a robot coffee shop?

A robot coffee shop is a café where drinks are prepared by a robotic system instead of a human barista. You order at a screen or counter, the robot brews your drink, and you pick it up when it's ready. Yummy Future grew out of a UIUC robotics lab, founded in 2018.

Where can I visit a robot coffee shop?

Yummy Future runs three robot coffee shops: 170 University Ave in downtown Palo Alto, CA; 401 E Green St, Suite B in Champaign, IL (Matcha House); and 609 E Green St in Champaign, IL (Original).

Do robots replace human baristas?

The robot replaces the repetitive part of the job — pulling identical shots hundreds of times a day. People still design the menu, taste and adjust every recipe, maintain the machines, and run the company. We hire humans (we're hiring, in fact), and The Daily Illini wrote a whole piece about exactly this question when our Champaign shop opened.

Can I get a robotic coffee system for my own business?

Yes — the same robotic platform that runs our shops is available to operators and franchise partners. Start the conversation on our partner page.
